Dr. Kimberley Williams-Barnes is originally from Detroit, Michigan. She received her undergraduate degree from The University of Michigan and her dental degree from Howard University in Washington, D.C. in 1986. After completion of her dental degree, Dr. Barnes completed a dental residency program at The University of Oklahoma/ Children’s Memorial Hospital in Oklahoma City, Ok.
Dr. Barnes has spent most of her career in dental public health. She was a member of the Commissioned Corp of the United States Public Health Service- Indian Health Service as a Lieutenant Commander.
In 1999, Dr. Barnes was appointed by then, Secretary of State, Donna Shalala (Clinton), to serve a 3 year term on the National Advisory Council of the National Health Service Corp. This council advises states on health manpower issues and how to better serve and train, health care providers serving the underserved health population of the United States.
Dr. Barnes also served on the Board of Directors for the Northern Arizona United Way Organization and The Northland Preparatory Academy in Flagstaff Arizona.
As Dental Director for North Country HealthCare for the last ten years, Dr. Barnes has expanded the program to serve as a training site for Northern Arizona University-School of Dental Hygiene, The Lutheran Medical Dental Residency Program, New York and the Arizona School of Oral Health (ASDOH) located in Mesa, Az. Dr. Barnes serves as adjunct faculty for Lutheran Medical and ASDOH.
Dr. Barnes was honored by the Arizona Association of Community Health Centers for her commitment to clinical teaching in 2002. She was the first Dentist to ever receive this award.
Kimberley is the mother to five children and has been happily married to Dr. Thomas Barnes, Jr., who she met in dental school, for 22 years. Her hobbies include gardening, cooking, reading and Yoga.
