Electronic health records can improve delivery of care

The national discussion about healthcare reform has often come around to the questions: "What can be done to improve the quality of medical care?" and "How can we reduce the cost of medical care?" An answer frequently heard from both sides of the aisle is "electronic health records."

Health care providers are moving away from using paper charts for patients' health records because paper charts are less efficient and more prone to errors than electronic health records. For example, paper records are often illegible, which can create problems such as medication errors or adverse drug reactions.
